Booster pack vs trial deck: which opening to spend

Spend an opening on the booster pack when you want hit-slot odds at chase cards, and on a trial deck when you want playable staples: the booster is 7 cards with one guaranteed R-or-better, while trial decks reveal highlight cards from ETD01 Red・Blue or ETD02 Green・Purple.

Key takeaways
  • Booster pack odds
  • Trial deck value
  • Collector versus player
  • Mixing across a week

Booster pack odds

Four Commons, two Uncommons and one hit slot: R 60.8%, RR 20%, SR 10%, SP 5%, OSR 2.5%, SSP 1.2%, SSS ~0.5%.

Trial deck value

Trial decks skew toward consistent playables, which is the faster route to a legal deck in the deck builder.

Collector versus player

Chasing grade and rarity for the binder favours boosters; building a working 50-card list favours decks.

Mixing across a week

Most members run three boosters and two decks a day: enough chase pulls to stay interesting, enough staples to finish a deck.
