Updating safely to Palworld 1.0.4: saves, mods and servers
Back up your save folder before launching 1.0.4. Saves carry forward, but mods break on almost every patch and dedicated servers must run the same version as their clients.
Updated for the current Palworld patch
- ✓Back up the save folder
- ✓Disable mods first
- ✓Update servers and clients together
- ✓Check config keys
Back up the save folder
Copy it to a second location before you launch the patched build. A copied folder is the only rollback that reliably works.
Disable mods first
Any mod touching game code or data usually stops working on a new version. Turn them off, patch, then re-enable one at a time to find the broken one.
Update servers and clients together
Dedicated servers must be on 1.0.4 alongside their players. A version mismatch is the most common "cannot join" cause after any Palworld patch.
Check config keys
Diff your server config against the shipped default instead of overwriting it — patches occasionally add new settings keys that a stale file silently misses.
Console players
Update 1.102.642 arrives through the platform store with no mod concerns, but cross-play still requires every player on the current version.
