Stop your Pals eating the breeding Cake
Cake is food, so base Pals will eat it out of a shared Feed Box. Losing a full stack to hungry workers is the most common breeding setback.

Why it happens
Pals pull whatever is available from the Feed Box, and Cake counts as an edible item with high nutrition, so it is often taken first.
The fix
Store Cake in a normal chest placed away from the Feed Box, and only move a stack into the Breeding Farm chest when a pair is actively breeding.
Keep the Feed Box stocked
Well-fed Pals still prefer the Feed Box, so keeping cooked meals and berries in it reduces the chance a Pal wanders to your storage.
Separate breeding base
The cleanest solution is a second base used only for Breeding Farms and incubators, with no food logistics at all.
