Palworld's combat is a third-person shooter with a Pal layer on top: you craft and upgrade firearms, wear elemental-resistant armour, throw spheres mid-fight and let a partner Pal apply elemental pressure while you aim.

Weapon crafting
Ranged weapons unlock through the tech tree and need workbench materials plus ammunition production, which is what pushes players into base automation.
Elemental armour
Armour with elemental resistance matters more than raw defence in specific biomes and boss fights, so keep a set per element rather than one best-in-slot.
Partner skills in a fight
Deployed Pals apply status and elemental damage while you handle aiming, so pairing your loadout with a counter-element Pal is the actual damage optimisation.
Doing the maths
Use the Pal Stars /damage calculator to compare element multipliers and boss defence before a fight instead of guessing at gear.
Where combat leads
Tower bosses and raids are gear checks. If a boss feels impossible, the answer is usually a tech-tree tier and an element swap, not more levels.
