Three base slots, three jobs: early ore, mid-game coal and a mobile forward base for whichever region you are clearing.

Base one — Windswept Hills
Flat ground, six-plus ore nodes inside a single Palbox radius, and short travel to the first tower. This base carries the entire first twenty levels.
Base two — Verdant Brook
Coal and ore overlap here, which turns it into the refined-ingot factory that gates every mid-game weapon.
Base three — mobile
Keep the last slot free and drop it next to whatever you are farming: Mount Obsidian for sulfur, Twilight Dunes for quartz, Feybreak for hexolite quartz.
Defence
Syndicate raids scale with base level. Build a single entrance, place two combat Pals, and keep a Defence Wall ring rather than an open compound.
Placement checklist
Flat ground, water within the radius, no alpha inside 200 m, and a statue within one hop. Fail any of the four and move on.
