Weighing packs
Use a 0.01 g jeweller's scale. Weigh at least 20 packs from the same box, take the median, and flag anything more than about 1 g above it. Humidity changes wrapper weight, so never compare across boxes or across days.
Backlighting
A bright, narrow LED held behind the pack reveals foil layers as dark bands. A god pack shows bands across every card position rather than one or two.
Why weighing is frowned upon
Weighing packs before resale is considered pack searching and gets sellers banned from most marketplaces and every sanctioned event. Detecting a searched pack is exactly why you should buy sealed boxes, not loose packs, from unknown sellers.
Signs a pack has already been searched
Creased wrapper corners, a re-flattened crimp seal, packs sold individually at above box-per-pack pricing, and listings that specify weight are all red flags. Loose packs from a broken box are the most-searched product in the hobby.
The safe alternative
Buy sealed booster boxes or full cases from an authorised retailer. Box-level product is expensive to search without visible damage, so the odds you get are the odds the print run intended.
