How Palworld capture rate actually works

Palworld capture chance is the Pal's base capture rate multiplied by sphere power, then scaled by remaining HP and status effects — a Pal below 20% HP and stunned can be up to five times easier to catch than one at full health.

The formula in plain terms

Chance ≈ base capture rate × sphere multiplier × HP factor × back-attack bonus. Each element compounds, so stacking two modifiers beats maxing one.

HP is the biggest lever

Dropping a target from 100% to 15% HP roughly triples catch chance. Use a low-damage weapon such as a bow so you do not overkill.

Back attacks

Throwing from behind adds a flat capture bonus. Circle-strafe before every throw — it is free and applies to Alphas too.

Status effects

Stun, freeze and sleep all add a multiplier. A frozen Legendary is the cheapest catch in the game.

Streak bonus

Consecutive successful captures raise your capture power for a short window, so batch-catch trash Pals right before an Alpha attempt.
